MEASUREMENT OF COMPLEX PERMITTIVITY OF ADHESIVE MATERIALS USING A SHORT OPEN- ENDED COAXIAL LINE PROBE

Abstract


The principal objective of this work is to study a dielectric device for characterization of materials, according to the temperature and the frequency. It will be applied to adhesives used in the wood and the car industry. This dielectric characterization enables us to select the best adhesives which has a complex dielectric and that gives thereafter a good distribution of the electric field. This studies will be made at the level of joint of adhesive at the time of a bonded assembly. Complex permittivity of a number of liquids has been measured using the coaxial probe techniques. Dielectric properties of the adhesives materials , in particular, the real and imaginary parts of the complex permittivity were measured using an openended coaxial probe over a board frequency range of 300 kHz to 3 GHz. The input reflection coefficient of the probe is measured with network analyzer, and the permittivity is determined by using an approximate circuit model for the admittance.
